However, due to the small gear has brought many technical difficulties, to tackle the small module gear has exceeded the processing range of machine tools. Wang Liding still gets up at 5 o'clock every day and trots all the way to the unit to turn on the machine tool and let the grinding wheel run in advance so that the machine tool can enter the ideal working state more quickly. Then he ran home to make breakfast for his family and showed up at the office or lab at 7:30. This habit lasted for 25 years.

In the 1980 s, Wang Liding organized the development of high-precision small module standard gear and medium module reference standard gear, after the Chinese Academy of Sciences organization identification, to reach the German DIN3962 standard in the second level of precision, ranking the forefront of the world, its physical sample as China's proofreading gear gauge benchmark.

At that time, a grade 2 precision standard gear was sold in Germany for tens of thousands of yuan. The state finance had difficulty in purchasing it. Changchun Institute of Optics and Machinery gave the standard gear to the China Institute of Metrology free of charge to help the state determine the benchmark for proofreading the gear gauge.

In 1998, Wang Liding was transferred to Dalian University of Technology. With the experience accumulated in Changchun Optical Machinery, he continued to struggle on the gear front for 20 years, spreading the results to the north and south of our country.
